  • Contact Information: With your explicit permission, we access your device's contacts to help you import them into the App. This data is primarily processed locally on your device.
  • Data You Provide: Information you enter into the App, such as relationship notes, birthdates, and check-in preferences.
  • Photos & Camera Access: With your permission, we may access your photo library or camera to let you assign profile pictures to your contacts.
  • Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymized user identifier and, optionally, your email address.
  • Purchase Information: We receive transaction receipts from the Apple App Store to validate your subscription status. We do not process or store your credit card or financial information directly.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Check In app.
  • Process your transactions and manage your subscription.
  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support messages.
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and requests.
  • Develop new features and services.

3. Data Storage & Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. Your personal relationship data (contacts, notes, history) is primarily stored locally on your device. When data is synced or backed up, we use secure cloud infrastructure (such as Supabase) with encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

4. Third-Party Services

We may share information with the following third-party service providers to help us operate our business:

  • Apple App Store: To process payments and distribute the App.
  • RevenueCat: To manage subscription infrastructure and validate purchase receipts.
  • Apple Sign In: To authenticate your identity securely.
  • Supabase: To provide backend database services and authentication management for synced data.

5. Chex AI & Artificial Intelligence

If you use our Chex AI features, certain data (such as drafted message context or relationship parameters) may be processed by AI models to generate suggestions. This data is anonymized where possible and is not used to train public AI models. We do not share your private relationship notes with third-party AI providers for their own independent use.

6. Push Notifications

We use push notifications to remind you to check in with your connections. Most of these notifications are scheduled locally on your device. We may also send server-side notifications regarding critical account updates or new features. You can opt-out of these notifications at any time in your device settings.

7. Your Rights & Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Opt-out of marketing communications.

8. Children's Privacy

Check In is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have collected information from your child, please contact us immediately, and we will take steps to remove such information.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services. We will also retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Upon account deletion, your data is removed from our active databases, though some information may remain in backup archives for a limited period.

10. International Users (EEA/UK)

If you are accessing the Services from the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom (UK), please note that your personal data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries. We rely on legal mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions to ensure your data is protected in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection laws.
